About

Hello, I’m Rebecca, a still life painter working in oils from my home studio in Tunbridge Wells. I’m self-taught, with an earlier career in set design for television, where I learned the power of composition, light, and atmosphere to quietly tell a story. In 2015, I returned to painting full time, and over the years my work has found its way into national exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Society of Women Artists, and the Royal West of England Academy.

My paintings often centre on overlooked or everyday objects, things that feel familiar but somehow charged with presence. I’m fascinated by how light transforms a scene, and just as drawn to the shadow it leaves behind. Sometimes the work leans into nostalgia, especially when I use toys, wallpaper, or tableware that carry echoes of childhood. Other times, it’s more about quietude, a single object held in stillness, with all the mood sitting in the space around it.

I work slowly and deliberately choosing each prop for a reason, whether it’s the way it reflects light, the story it suggests, or something I can’t quite put into words but feel instinctively. My hope is that each piece invites you to stop for a moment, notice something small, and feel a flicker of recognition.
